Reflexology is a bodywork therapy where pressure/massage is applied to areas or zones of the feet in order to activate healing effects in other parts of the body.
When foot reflexes are worked in this manner, several things happen. Firstly, waste deposits are broken down and taken away by the body’s lymphatic system. This helps to detoxify the body; secondly, there are over 7,000 nerve endings on each foot. These nerve endings connect to pathways that lead to every organ, gland, and part of the body. The appropriate nerves, or reflexes, in the feet are targeted and their gentle stimulation increases the positive flow of neurotransmitters to the brain, helping to create energy balance, self healing and the breakdown of blockages, both mentally and physically.
The treatment that we now know as reflexology has its roots set in ancient Egypt, India and China, but it wasn’t until the early part of the 20th century that William Fitzgerald introduced the concept to the west. He had noticed that certain areas on the feet were linked to other areas on the body.
By the 1930s further research had been carried out and it was discovered that tension in any part of the foot is mirrored by some discomfort in a corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a very safe treatment and can be beneficial in the treatment of many conditions including migraine, back pain, sleep disorders, digestive disorders and hormonal imbalances, but it is in the treatment of stress related conditions that reflexology is particularly effective. The whole treatment is a totally relaxing experience, which should leave you with a feeling of calm and well being. After treatment you will probably experience a feeling of pleasant sleepiness.
I recommend drinking plenty of water afterwards to assist in the removal of released toxins from the body.
Tensions are eased, toxins eliminated and relaxation is induced, which in turn stimulates the body’s own natural healing power.
Initially, a course of several treatments is usually necessary to alleviate existing conditions, after which I will be pleased to advise you upon a programme of maintenance to address your own personal needs.
